Is Your Little Precious a Sufferer of Cat Dandruff?
As a frequent visitor to cat forums, a question that comes up way too often is that of cat dandruff. It’s a nuisance that affects most of us cat lovers, and if you have a cat, it’s a matter of time before you have to deal with it.
But fear not, there is cat dandruff treatment that you can use without burning a hole in your pocket, just by observing the symptoms and environment and taking action based on these symptoms.
This is what I found out from the excellent website on cat dandruff treatment…
Many cat dandruff issues have in common 3 factors:
1. An ageing or over-weight cat with dandruff on her rump or tail
If your cat is over-weight or has gained weight suddenly and dandruff on her rump and tail, it’s a sure sign that she’s not able to reach these areas to clean herself. This is also an issue for old cats that lack the mobility to groom themselves.
Simply brush you cat and I suggest you groom her every two months. If you decide to give your cat a bath, please avoid using human shampoos as that might dry her skin further and exacerbate the condition. Always use a cat shampoo and do not forget to wash thoroughly as remaining shampoo stuck on her undercoat may begin the problem all over again.
2. It’s winter
If your cat only experiences dandruff issues in winter, then it could be the result of the cold and dry weather. To compond the problem, the majority of cats like to lay about in the warm comforts of the fireplace, which rapidly dries her skin causing it to flake.
A good idea is to take her away from the fireplace regularly and observe if the cat dandruff persists. Buying a humidifier would be an excellent idea, both for your cat and also yourself (we get dry skin too…)
3. My cat is neither over-weight nor old, and the weather is really sunny now
If your cat is still plagued with dandruff, just think, have you changed any new furniture lately? A new rug perhaps? See if there has been any changes to her environment that she might be affected by and try to make the required adjustments.
If all the above solutions still don’t work, there’s still more, I’ve found a guide to cure cat dandruff.
