Cat Treatments and Therapies

Cat Illness Symptons

Giving cat’s pain relief is not recommended without the say so of a veterinarian and prescription and should always be under supervision. We should always be sure that there is something wrong with the animal before administering any kind of help. Unfortunately for cats they often suffer from bone and joint diseases. Most of the time, animals just ignore their discomfort so you do not know that they are in any pain. One common problem is cat arthritis pain.

As cats are unable to actually comminucate what is wrong with them, it can be hard sometimes to know what is making them ill. A cat is able to hide the fact that it is suffering much better than humans or dogs can, they dont appear to like sympathy. 2. It can be hard to tell what is wrong with your cat especially if it sleeps a lot anyway but you should check how much food it is eating and if it is being overly aggressive. Sometimes cats can seem disinterested in grooming themselves as well, which is in most cases unusual. A lot of people go overboard when grooming their cats, which can result in very red and raw patches.

Signs of illness can include obvious agitation and growling, as well as fast breathing. Most of the time it is best to just book an appointment with the veterinarian and get the cat diagnosed as quickly as possible. Pain relief for cats is often varied as a lot of the time it is hard to predict just how much pain the cat is in or how the cat will react to the medication. As cats can suffer side effects from their medications it is better to look for joint meds that can be given in lower doses. Seeing your cat in pain is something no one likes and so you should make a real effort to get it treated as soon as possible. As soon as your cat begins to behave differently to how it does normally, you should book a vet appointment for it could be very ill.

Building Cat Houses is Easy

Cats enjoy to have their own houses which provide them hours of entertainment as well as safe and warm places to rest. There are many different plansof cat houses you can buy, but it is relatively uncomplicated and handy to build a cat house yourself. By doing your own project yourself, you have the advantage to design exactly what you need for your location and your cat or cats.

You will need the following paraphernalia, which you can get at your local hardware store: One 4′x8′ sheet of 3/8″ plywood, three 2″x4″x8″ studs, one box of 5/8″ wood screws and rug remnants. Divide the plywood and the each stud in half and then take each piece and cutsaw them in half again. You should end up with eight pieces of plywood each measuring 2'x2'. These sections will be used for the floor, walls and roof of your cat house. Cutting the studs will result in twelve pieces that are each 2′ in length. These will form the configuration to screwthe plywood to. Use a staple gun or glue to attach the carpet remains to the plywood. The carpet covering lends a expanse for your cat to to take care of his need to scratch and stretch his claws, sparing your furniture.

Congratulations! Your cat house do it yourself project is now complete. This project is not slated to be used as an outdoor cat house since supplies used are not waterproof. You may change the house for use outdoors by the adding a roof in the form of a triangle. This will require extra studs and plywood covered with roof shingles so any rain will run off without affecting the house.

The project to be used outdoors should not have carpet on the outside because moisture trapped in the fabric will eventually cause the plywood to rot. For outdoor use you may alter the carpet with a water sealant to strengthen the life span of the habitat.

A safe and warm habitat for your cat to hang out does not have to be opulent nor expensive. Add your own particular touch and construct what is right for your pet and yourself.

Need Help Choosing a Cat?

Choosing a cat breed can be a bit daunting, especially if you don’t know very much about cats! When considering which breed of cat you like best, you must be sure to choose a breed that will best suit your lifestyle. While certain cat breeds require a great deal more grooming than others, you can also find breeds that need a lot more exercise–it’s all a matter of traits specifically belonging to certain breeds. Look below to find the top five most popular cat breeds. You will also learn about the personality type and grooming responsibilities for each breed.

The Oriental is one of the most popular cat breeds around. This breed is a very intelligent, loyal companion and tends to bond deeply with its family. It has large, pointed ears, and although its body is very sleek, it is still quite a muscular breed.

One of the most popular cat breeds for a family is the American Shorthair. The American shorthair originally was a working breed, mostly for mouse hunting, which explains the agile muscular structure and short hair. They do need a little exercise, but most are quite happy being a lap cat.

The Birman breed is thought to have originated from Burma. They usually have a white body, bright blue eyes, and brown ears, legs, tail, and face. Birmans possess a long, sturdy body structure with extensive, mat-resistant hair. They love to play and are quite gentle. They are affectionate without being too needy.

If you’re looking for a very loving, snuggly cat, then a Sphynx may be the breed for you. Although they appear to have no fur, they actually have a suede-like fur all over their body. As they don’t have much hair to protect their skin, they should strictly be kept indoors. This breed has a particular necessity for comfortable room temperature, as they can easily become too cold.

A very mild and gentle cat breed is the Ragdoll, appropriately named such as it can be quite floppy and relaxed when picked up. If you love a cat that accompanies you from room to room, this breed would likely be a wonderful match for you. They are a great breed to choose if you have children, as they are very gentle and are careful not to use teeth and claws when playing.

{Now that you have a better idea about the most popular, yet very different, cat breeds out there, hopefully you find choosing a cat to be a little less daunting than before. Be sure to remember that lifestyles are important factors to consider; so if you aren’t very active, you probably shouldn’t choose a cat that requires a lot of activity, and vice versa. Hopefully you have a better understanding of which type of cat would be best for you. Just keep in mind the requirements that each breed can demand, and be sure that whichever cat you choose, you are up to maintaining it. The best rule of thumb to go by is to choose a cat whose activity levels and lifestyle best match your own.}

It is equally important that you have the proper supplies to raise a cat. Whether your cat is exclusively an indoor pet or not, a piece of cat furniture or pet steps are a great way to ensure that your cat gets the exercise he needs to remain fit.

Got The Scratch In Buying A Cat?

The cat has been perceived as a creature of mystery, of magic and sometimes, wittiness. It’s no wonder that the cat has a place in the hearts of men even though dogs are considered as man’s best friend. The Egyptians of long ago are very much fond of these wonderful animals and cats are even considered as the most and best suggested for an ancient Egyptian royal family. Even today, even though the dog is still man’s best friend, cats have places in the houses and in somebody’s hearts. Why, even dogs today love cats. That phrase that say something like “dogs hate cats” or “cats hate dogs who hate them” are just some sort of urban legend. Dogs do chase cats but they don’t fight it out to the end. Maybe cats have found a sort of cat communication to talk it out with dogs and maybe to humans. If you love cats, you sure want to talk to your cat in their own language, right?

For an ordinary person, choosing a cat for a pet is no big deal. He just have to go to a pet store or go to a breeder and then, buy the cat that he wants and that’s it but for those who are really “cat aficionados”, it’s different. Buying a cat takes more than just the simple and usual simple choosing and buying. He needs to find out what kind of a cat breed would he want to be as a pet. You see, not all cats are alike, obviously and they can differ in their attitude, how they were naturally brought up, the way they communicate with other animals and other people. A mild person would want a tabby pet that is also gentle and a wild person might want to have a puma for a pet. No, seriously, that’s just one way of choosing a pet cat even in buying a kitten. Cats are just like dogs and they need to communicate with the master. It is amazing for a person to differentiate a mew that says “I’m hungry” and the mew that says “Help! I’m in pain!”. Therefore, if a cat owner really need to care for a cat in the most tender and loving way, he should try to learn some cat communication skills. To learn these things, it is also recommended to buy a sort of book guide that can teach all the things about how to choose a cat, how to train it and how to feed it to make it feel happy and truly adorable.

How To Care For A Kitten

Deciding to get a kitten is a big step in expanding your family. Kitten care also requires more responsibilities, but kittens can grow to become excellent companions and are well worth the time and care in their upbringing.

An important part of bringing home a kitten is preparing your home for the new member. Have a good look around your house and “cat-proof” it. Keep in mind that anything that dangles (such as lamp cords, curtains, etc.) are an extreme temptation for a mischievous kitten. Kittens just love to roam around, hide, as well as chew and “paw” things. Remember this when making your house cat-proof.

Feeding and daily care of a kitten involve just four items: a place for the kitten to sleep, fresh food and water, a litter box with litter and a scratching pad or post. Kittens love toys, too, so be sure to have plenty on hand when your kitten joins the family. Several name-brand foods specifically designed for kittens are available. Ask your veterinarian for recommendations if you are unsure when feeding a kitten.

Before letting your kitten have free-reign of the house, you must consider that some everyday house plants and chemicals can be deadly to cats. If you are unsure about any items in your house, do a bit of research online or phone your veterinarian.

Veterinary visits are a major responsibility when you care for a kitten. You must have your kitten examined soon after you bring it home, not only for required vaccinations, but for a general check-up to make sure your new pal is healthy and happy. You may also be require to register your pet with the local government (many cities require this, however it is not always a requirement for rural communities).

Some people find that litter training a kitten is quite easy. Most cats seem to be drawn to the litter box and need little or no assistance at all. However, some cats can be particularly difficult. You may find it easier to keep the litter box in an open, obvious area that the kitten can easily find. Also, do not completely replace the litter. Leaving a bit of “dirty litter” in the box can attract the kitten there as his nose will associate the litter box as the proper place to potty.

Owning a cat is sure to be a wonderful experience, and with the proper care, the bond between you and your kitten can be a fast and infinite one.

Cats Fleas – Best Remedy

The Best Flea Control For Cats

Tips on how to prevent flea from infecting your cats.

If you have a very purrty feline of your own as a pet, then, you know very well the ordeal you’re dealing regarding fleas. So, stick around if you want to know the best flea control for cats to protect, not only your tabby, but your family as well from flea-related skin disease. One of the causes why your little fur ball are having fleas even though you tried everything to make her clean all year round is you can’t prevent her from going outside and have a little fun in the sun catching butterflies, getting a fish or two from your neighbor’s house or ransacking their trash cans. These and other unhygienic activities can make her scratch herself to death, not to mention some other health problems.

That is why you need to get a good type of flea control. If you are using the same brand every time & found out that it isn’t working out for you, then, you either need to change your brand or you need to observe a few rules or you could do both and you’d better believe it when somebody will tell you that your cat will love you for it.

cats vet

Talking about flea control, here is one tip that you might find helpful. Have a little visit down your favorite pet store and find a really good flea control or you can go to your veterinarian and have your itchy little get dipped in a flea control product that will keep them look and feel good for a certain amount of time. Remember, flea control like these can be just on a temporary basis but it helps.

But what if you still can’t find what you’re looking for or what if that temporary remedy starts to wear itself off? Well, you just need to go on the Net because there are lots of sites there that offer so much stuff online for an affordable yet effective method for controlling fleas. Remember, sometimes the good stuff are only available online. Ever heard of the phrase, "Not Sold In Stores"? Well, that explains that.

But to completely eradicate this problem, you need to have your own flea control measures, too. Here are some of the tips that might be useful: Take a look at your house. You can have an initial flea control method by ensuring that all cracks, nooks and crannies are filled in thus ridding your home of safe havens in which the fleas can breed safely.

Second, always try to make it a point that you should vacuum your house regularly, not missing a single spot. Pay close attention to dark and warm places. Make sure you reach all corners, under the sofa, hard-to-reach cupboards, carpets or rugs, chairs, desks, tables and other places in which fleas are able to hide.

Lastly, to reduce the chances of another major outbreak of fleas, you should purchase an effective flea collar on your cat. Not only it will prevent future outbreaks but it will make your pet look good, too. A beautiful collar with matching beautiful flea-free fur is a nice thing to behold, isn’t it?

Somebody said that the best flea control for cats is the use of Borax. So far, they concluded that it is the safest, most effective and most commonly used method for fleas. As a matter of fact, this is the "secret ingredient" in most commercially available anti-flea products but the question is, where can you find this effective flea control for cats? Why not try to see if this is really the best option for you and your tabby friend? After all, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Eye Cats

A Basic Introduction to Cat Eye Care

The eyes of your feline friends have often been used on horror films. But if you are a pet owner, you will know that the cat’s stare is really the opposite of what’s being portrayed on films. That is why you have to know the importance of cat eye care.

##################################

Click Here For A Vet’s Secrets To Keeping Your Cat Healthy

##################################

I Love You

feline cats

How do cats say these words? Through their eyes, of course. That is why you shouldn’t be frightened by that gaze. How does this work? First, the cat stares at you for a long while. And after that, it blinks its eyes slowly. Some people tag this as a cat’s kiss. But you can also say that this is your cat’s way of saying that it loves you.

But how do you return the favor? Easy, just follow your cat’s lead. Stare at it for a long time and then slowly blink your eyes. See? Cats’ eyes can also be used as elements for romantic films.

Not a Third Eye

Don’t believe the horror films you see. Cats don’t have a third eye. Their eyesight is really sharper than with humans. Instead of a third eye, what cats have is a third eyelid. This is called a nictitating membrane.

This inner eyelid protects the eyes of the cats from harm and also from dryness. You will notice that when a cat is sick, this membrane will somewhat close. This should alarm you to call the vet or get your cat to them fast.

But this third eyelid will also show once a cat is happy. So you will know what mood your cat is in just by looking at the membrane.

The Pupil

Your feline friend’s pupil of the eyes should also be observed. A change in size of one pupil can be an indication of an inflammation. It can also be a sign of a kind of a disorder in neurologic called Horner’s Syndrome. Or worse, it can also indicate tumors or injuries in the central nervous system.

The Nocturnal Vision

Do not believe what others say that cats are color blind. They see some. They may not see  as clear as humans do, but it’s not like that they cannot see any colors at all.

Cats can also see clearly from afar. It’s very different from people. They find it blurry to be looking at things that are so close to them.

Yes, cats have the nocturnal vision. But they can’t see in complete darkness. Do you see the muscles on their iris that surround the pupils of their eyes? They are constructed in a way that it narrows into a vertical split when they are exposed in the bright lights. And it opens fully when the acts are in a quite dim light.

This feature of the cats may be traced back to their roots. They can use such to hunt for food during the night if they were left out in the jungle or left with no one to care for them.

So forget about the horror flicks. You’ve already got the thrills. Not it’s time to put some effort into cat eye care. Do not let a minor thing worsen. Call the vet immediately when something’s amiss. You don’t want your cat to lose their sight or even lose their lives. It is always better to be safe than blind.

Cat Birth, What You Should Know

The Pregnant Cat Health Care Plan

Your cat is pregnant and you need to administer proper nutrition and fluids so that she can have a normal and easy labor. The pregnant cat health plan requires a birthing room. A cat usually picks a place away from people and other animals. This place is where the kittens are born and cleaned. A mother may move the kittens to a new area when they are about one to two weeks old. If you do not want this to happen, you may have to pick a place that confines her during labor and nursing.

##################################

##################################

Proper exercise is needed for the pregnant cat and monitoring of all activities with other pets must be done to prevent miscarriages. The first sign your cat is pregnant is about three weeks after conception, the nibbles appear pink and will be tender. Now is the time to feed a healthy diet that will nutritious the unborn kittens as they grow to term. If the mother cat is healthy, the kittens should be born healthy.

vomiting cats

A pregnant cat health plan does not include rabies shots or distemper shots during pregnancy. This can harm the unborn kittens. The only things a vet will do are check for heartbeats and recommend the proper food and maybe some vitamins. A Blood test is done to check the mother’s health. By nine weeks, you need to monitor the mother closely as she will deliver anytime.

The pregnant cat will require some help from you, the owner, if complications happen during the birthing process. Try to read up on some simple birthing mishaps that might require your help and learn the proper way to do them in case the need arises. A veterinarian’s telephone number should be in place in case something serious happens either to the mother or to the kittens.

Once the mother delivers, she will clean her new kittens and start to nurse them. Keep her litter box clean and supply her with plenty of water and plenty of food during the next six weeks. Pregnant cat health does not require a lot of work as the mother usually does everything. You want to make sure the birthing area is cleaned up after the mother has done the necessary cleaning.

##################################

The pregnant cat health does not stop after birth; you must keep the mother in perfect health to care for her kittens. These means checking the nipples from time to time to see if they look healthy and have no problems or sores. The cat must be kept away from other male cats and left to nurture your kittens. Once the kittens start moving around, the mother will be busy trying to control them and eventually, she will get sick of them bothering her. She needs to wean the kittens by about five weeks. This is when you need to supply the kittens with kitten food. The mother will reach them to use the litter box, but in some cases, the mother does not and you will have to train them yourself.

Cats Illness, Cat Symptoms

When we experience pain in our bodies, we can easily tell someone that there is something wrong and that person will be able to bring you to the hospital. Pets cannot do that but watching them can tell you a lot of things which is why owners should practice cat care and be aware of the symptoms.

Here are a few diseases you should watch out for and their symptoms.

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is the most feared disease and in fact is the leading cause of death among cats. It is caused by a coronavirus infection and the worse part is that the cats symptoms are very common with other ailments so it is really hard to tell.

##################################

Click Here For A Vet’s Secrets To Keeping Your Cat Healthy

##################################

There is also Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) that is similar to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). Just like the human version, it is a life long infection that progresses slowly and kills the cat.

Cats can also in infected by Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). It is a retrovirus that causes fatal cancerous and non-cancerous diseases. Fortunately, it can be treated using some household detergents and bleach as well as warmth and drying. It is transmitted through the saliva, tears, urine and feces of infected cats. Unlike the other two, it cannot survive that long in the environment so it is only contagious when the infected cat stays with another cat for a long period of time.

Worms are also another threat to cats and this is caused by a fungal infection that is spread through the spores. Since it is a self-limiting disease, you don’t to do anything to make it go away. It will eventually clear up but it may just take a few months.

If you cat is overweight, chances are it already has feline diabetes. The symptoms of this disease include excessive urination and thirst as well as weight loss or gain. Vets are not yet sure what causes this but there have been a few research studies that have shown that there is a link between pancreatic disease, hormonal imbalance and certain medications.

The symptoms of most of the diseases mentioned are very similar. These include diarrhea, vomiting, lameness lasting for more than 5 days in one leg,   a decrease in vision, excessive panting, a seizure, blood in the stool or urine, hair loss, persistent coughing or gagging and breathing heavily or rapidly at rest. In order to find the answer, your cat will have to undergo some tests.

The vet will take some blood, urine and feces samples. Any input that you have observed and give will also be useful. When the tests come out, only then will the proper treatment be administered to the cat as each case varies so what worked for one cat may not have the same positive effect with yours.

##################################

##################################

Your cat could still be healthy if you gave it constant attention. This can be done by feeding it high quality food, giving it fresh water, allowing it to exercise, proper grooming, making sure it stays indoors and taking it regularly to the vet.

If you have missed any of these simple steps, something wrong is bound to happen and you will soon notice a change in the behavior of the feline and doing nothing about it just going to make matters worse. So observe proper cat care tips and look out for symptoms.

Sneezing Cats & Cats Disease

If you have problems with your cat sneezing there are a couple of possibilities. There could possibly be a respiratory allergy or in more serious cases a virus. In many cases it could just be an allergy to something in the environment. In the more serious cases the could have picked up a virus and should be vaccinated. If the problem is chronic it is advised to take your cat to the vet for a proper check up.

Cats just like humans are prone to sicknesses. In fact, cats succumb to two cat viral infections that will be discussed shortly. The good news is that there is a cure for many cat illnesses.

##################################

Click Here For A Vet’s Secrets To Keeping Your Cat Healthy

##################################

These two common viral infections are Feline Herpes 1 virus known as rhinotracheitis virus and infection with the organisms called Chlamydia psittaci and mycoplasma.

rspca cat

When a cat is infected, they will experience a fever, have weepy eyes, a crusty nose and sneeze a lot. This can go away with or without treatment but this can come back.

When this happens, the condition is called Feline Keratoconjunctivitis the virus settles in the nerves around their face. Corneal scars can be seen to a little over a centimeter in diameter. This makes it hard for the cat to see and it usually happens due to stresses associated with boarding, weather change, a new pet in the house or as mentioned earlier other diseases.

Things are going to get worse as the outer coating of the cornea will be lost to the invading virus. Secondary bacterial and mycoplasmal infection of these areas may cause deep ulcers around the eye and in some cases damage the surrounding areas as well.

Fortunately, this can be treated using an amino acid called –lysine by reducing the amount of another amino acid called arginine that is present in the cat’s body. The vet will prescribe a dosage between 200 to 500 mg per day and sprinkled into their food. There are different brands available and when you look for one, make sure it is glycol free.

You can also try topical antibiotics that have also proven to be effective but they are only designed to quell secondary bacterial invaders.

Another option is for you to use topical anti-virals that are designed to directly fight the virus. Some examples of these include  Herplex  (idoxuridine), Viroptic (trifluorothymidine, and Vira-A (vidarabine).  These medications are relatively expensive and have to be given 5 times a day. Only when the cornea is indeed infection should this be given.

Something more affordable than the topical anti-virals is an oral solution called Oral Interferon. Although it has never been scientifically proven to treat cat viral infections, cat owners that have used this have claimed that it does shorten the length of the infection. The best part is that there are no known side effects so you don’t lose anything by trying it.

Vaccines seem to be the best way to prevent these diseases from happening. Ideally, this should be given to a cat during their 9th, 12th and 14th week of age. It should be administered using a 25 gauge needle on the anterior side of a rear leg and massaged afterwards to prevent tumors from forming in the injection sites.

There are other eye infections that mimic what was just mentioned. One example is eosinophilic conjunctivitis. So before any medication can be given, the vet will first have to do a test to make sure that the proper medication is given.

##################################

Click Here For A Vet’s Secrets To Keeping Your Cat Healthy

##################################

This is known as PCR or the Polymerase Chain Reaction test. It is a DNA test that amplifies the presence of viral DNA so that even one single virus can be detected in a sample from a conjunctival swab.

Cat viral infections are common among kittens but they can be prevented and cured. You have to know first which one you are dealing with so the proper medication can be given. For more information about them, do some research online and go talk to your vet.
